In April 2004, the annual plenary meeting of the Antilles Episcopal Conference was held in La Virgen del Carmen Guest & Retreat House. The meeting was attended by his Excellency Emil Paul Tscherrig, Papal Representative to the Region, who addressed the Bishops on The Spirituality of Priests. The participants also discussed the Crisis of Vocations in the Caribbean and reports about matters like the Youth, the Liturgy, the Antilles' relationship with the Conference of Bishops of Latin America and various social issues. The Bishops all stayed at the guesthouse and celebrated a well attended open air Mass at Seru di Orashon. The 175th anniversary of the Church in Curaçao was also celebrated.
